XCMG rotary drilling rigs are used to pile foundations over the Yangtze River!

The Chongqi Gong-Tie Yangtze River Bridge is a critical control point for the high-speed rail from Shanghai to Nanjing and Hefei. It is currently the world's largest double-tower, double-cable, dual-purpose rail and road cable-stayed bridge with a ballastless track. It is also the world's first steel truss combined beam cable-stayed bridge in the first system.

The piling area for XCMG rotary drilling rigs is characterized by deep overburden layers, special rock and soil layers, river alluvial terrain, and complex navigational conditions due to fast-flowing water in the waterway. The difficulty of steel casing construction is high, placing greater demands on the rotary drilling rig's construction.

As a result, the main pier foundations on both sides of the bridge are composed of 76 piles with a diameter of 2.5m|8ft, with a drilling depth of up to 140m|460ft for each pile. Since the start of construction, a total of seven large-tonnage rotary drilling rigs, including XCMG XR700E, XR600E, XR550D, and XR580HD, have been used to carry out a streamlined operation of drilling, cleaning, lowering the cage, and pouring concrete for the piles, ensuring the completion of one pile per day.

During construction, XCMG XR700E and XR600E rotary drilling rigs, as the main models, have a maximum drilling diameter of 4m|13ft and maximum drilling depths of 160m|525ft and 150m|492ft, respectively, perfectly meeting the construction requirements.

It is understood that after the completion of the Chongqing Gong-Tie Yangtze River Bridge, it will become a crucial north-south high-speed rail crossing over the Yangtze River. It will play a significant role in serving the coordinated development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and promoting the high-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
