XCMG Rotary Drilling Rigs Glory Moments In Sichuan-Tibet Railway Construction

Since the commencement of construction of the Chinese government’s Sichuan-Tibet railway, this 1,838-kilometer-long railway project has entered into the third section of construction. The third section is the last and also the most challenging, linking Sichuan and Tibet between Ya’an and Nyingchi, which expects to be completed in November 2032.

Currently, the construction work linking Xinduqiao in Sichuan and Bomi in Tibet has begun, including the construction of the two bridges with a total length of 13.9 kilometers.

Because of the complex geological and climate conditions in the regions, more challenges are posed to construction workers and extremely high requirements for construction equipment. The construction of the two bridges has been extra difficult with a working altitude above 3,000 meters and a working temperature below minus ten Celsius. Surprisingly, all the constructors on the site have made the same choice when considering drilling rigs for bridge construction – XCMG rotary drilling rigs.

The two bridges will have a combined pile length of 87,000 meters, with a pile depth of around 40 meters in cobble layers. As the picture shows below, altogether four XCMG rigs are working on the plateau simultaneously, with models XR280E and XR360. According to the onsite construction workers, these rigs have given an outstanding performance under the extreme cold and snowy weather.

Thanks to the special hydraulic chassis design and powerful turbocharged engine, XCMG rotary drilling rigs can perform with super stability under harsh infrastructure conditions. Also, the load sensing technology and intelligent control system of the rigs have made construction work on the plateau more efficient, ensuring the successful progress of the project.

XCMG has been substantially involved in the construction of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, which will cross eight mountains upon completion. This is a glory moment for XCMG to be part of the so-called “most challenging railway construction project in human history”. And again, the remarkable performance of XCMG rotary drilling rigs has once again delighted the constructors.
