XCMG XR550D rotary drilling rig broke pile depth record in Jiaojiang Bridge construction
XCMG drilling rigs again won applause for its record-breaking achivements during the construction of 267 km Hangzhou – Taizhou Railway, which is China’s first privately-owned high-speed railway project.
During the construction of the main bridge (Jiaojiang Bridge), XCMG rigs were able to overcome difficult construction conditions, and completed all piles ahead of schedule.
Jiaojiang Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with a total length of 5,253 metres (17,234 ft), main span of 480 metres (1,570 ft) and 194 metres (636 ft) high central pylon. The two main piers with 84 piles, 2.5 meters in diameter, were all over 140 meters deep, and the deepest one was 143 meters, which created a record for the pile depth of railroad bridge construction in China.
As said by the manager of this project, “In the past, like this large-diameter, extra-long bored pile, we mainly used rotary drilling technology, but the hole formation efficiency is not high, while it requires a lot of mud, which is not environmentally friendly enough. Jiaojiang Special Bridge project has a very tight schedule, and we also need to meet safety and environment protection challenges. A new construction method is urgently needed.”
Facing the huge challenge, two XCMG XR550D rotary drilling rigs showed superb construction ability, and with the cooperation of XR400D and XRS1050 rotary drilling rigs, a pile could be completed in 2 days, and the task was successfully completed in just 3 months.
