XR800HD Rotary Drilling Rig Contributed to the Foundation Construction of Chizhou Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge

The Chizhou Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge is a critical main project of the Hefei- Chizhou intercity railway, which is about to commence construction. Once completed, the bridge will become the sixth Highway-Railway bridge spanning the Yangtze River in Anhui Province. At the construction site located 380m|1,246.7ft away from the south bank of the Chizhou section of the Yangtze River, the first main pier of the bridge was successfully drilled by a XCMG XR800HD large-tonnage rotary drilling rig, marking the full commencement of the bridge main work.

On March 24th, the main pier No.4 of the bridge was drilled. It consists of 77 bored piles with a diameter of 2.8m|9.2ft for the foundation. These piles are designed as friction piles, with weakly weathered sandy mudstone as the bearing layer. The designed pile length is 112m|367.5ft, with a single pile designed concrete volume of 689 cubic meters. The special geological and hydrological conditions, as well as the ultra-long and ultra-deep bored pile design, all have brought difficulties to the construction of the pile foundation.

During the construction of the bridge, the XCMG XR800HD large-tonnage rotary drilling rig played a critical role. Due to its many advantages, the XR800HD is the optimal choice for the large-scale bridge construction. Firstly, the rig has an ultra-large torque and ultra-large aperture, which can complete the drilling and grouting construction of large-scale bridge piles quickly and accurately. Secondly, the rig can drill ultra-deep piles up to a depth of 138.5m|454.4ft to meet the requirements of ultra-deep holes in bridge construction. In addition, the XR800HD also enjoys the features of high efficiency and high standards, with an average completion time of about one week for each drilling operation, providing strong support for the efficient progress of the project.

Prior to this, XCMG large-tonnage rotary drilling rigs have already made remarkable contributions to Anhui’s cross-river projects, successfully participating in the pile foundation work of super bridges such as the Ma’anshan Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge and the Tongling Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge. The south and north towers of the Chizhou Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge have a height of 274.5m|900.5ft and 282.5m|926.8ft respectively and are both beautiful diamond-shaped reinforced concrete bridge towers, known as the “Bridge in the Sky”. XCMG large-tonnage rotary drilling rigs will drill deep down to lay the foundation for this “Bridge in the Sky“, transforming a barrier into a passageway and facilitating high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta economic zone!
