What Is a Hydraulic Pile Breaker?
For Concrete Pile Cutting
- up to 120MPa
- Ø600–2000 mm
- 15–20 Days
A hydraulic pile breaker is a construction tool that uses hydraulic power to cleanly cut and remove the top of concrete foundation piles. It crushes concrete without damaging the rebar inside, completing in minutes what manual methods take hours to do. Powered by an excavator or a separate hydraulic power pack, the pile breaker uses multiple hydraulic cylinders to apply uniform radial force around the pile, producing a perfect horizontal pile cutting without leaving cracks below the cut-off level.
Unlike traditional methods such as manual jackhammering or hand breaking, a hydraulic pile cutter significantly reduces noise, dust, and labor costs on site. It is widely used in infrastructure projects including high-speed rail, bridge construction, urban building foundations, and marine engineering, where large numbers of piles must be cut to a precise design level.
Using advanced modular design, FES pile breakers can be used for crushing piles of different diameters by changing the modular combination quantity. FES hydraulic pile breakers handle pile diameters from 250mm to 2500mm, compatible with 5–60 ton excavators. Available for round, square, and walled piles, FES offers a complete range of concrete pile cutting machines to match your project requirements.
Key Advantages of FES Pile Breakers

Modular Design for All Pile Diameters
FES pile breakers use an advanced modular system. By adding or removing jaw modules, one machine can crush piles of different diameters — no need to buy a separate pile breaker machine for each pile size on your project. This modular combination design also produces a perfect horizontal cut without leaving cracks below the cut-off level, ensuring the structural integrity of the remaining pile body.

Rebar-Friendly Crushing Technology
Our hydraulic cylinders apply controlled compression rather than impact force. This means the concrete fractures cleanly away from the rebar cage, leaving reinforcement steel straight, intact, and ready for structural bonding. No rebar damage means no costly repairs or engineering rework.

Versatile Power Source & Universal Compatibility
FES pile breakers can be installed on a large variety of construction machineries — excavators, cranes, and stationary frames — realizing maximum versatility and economy. They can be powered by either a hydraulic power pack or any equipment installed with a hydraulic power source, such as an excavator. Universal quick-coupling hoses ensure compatibility with all major brands including Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Volvo, Doosan, SANY, and XCMG.

Convenient Assembly for Easy Transportation
The convenient assembly design allows quick disassembly and reassembly, making it easy to transport between job sites and increasing overall work efficiency. The modular components can be separated and loaded onto standard trucks without special lifting equipment.

Hardened Steel Construction
All crushing jaws and blades are manufactured from wear-resistant alloy steel with hardness up to HRC 55-60. The cylinder rods are chrome-plated for corrosion resistance, ensuring a service life of 3,000+ working hours under normal conditions.
How Does a Hydraulic Pile Breaker Work?
The hydraulic pile breaker uses multiple hydraulic cylinders to apply uniform 360-degree radial compression around the pile head. This controlled pressure fractures the concrete cleanly while leaving the rebar intact — no impact, no vibration. Broken concrete is removed and rebar is cut to design level. The full process takes 3–10 minutes per pile versus 30+ minutes manually.

Low Maintenance, Low Operating Cost
With only three moving parts (hydraulic cylinders, jaw arms, and pins), FES pile breakers are easy to maintain with low maintenance cost. The simple and safe operating system requires less staffing — a single operator can run the machine from the excavator cab — significantly lowering overall construction cost.

Three Types for Every Pile Shape
FES offers three options to cover all job site requirements: round type, square type, and walled type. Whether your project involves cast-in-place circular piles, precast square piles, or large-diameter walled piles, there is a FES pile breaker built for the job.

Follow these steps to operate the FES hydraulic pile breaker safely and efficiently.
Safety note: Wear proper PPE. Never reach inside the breaker while hydraulics are engaged. Inspect hoses and connections daily.
01.

Site Preparation
Clear the area around the pile head. Mark the design cut-off level with spray paint. Keep personnel at least 5 meters away.
02.

Attach the Pile Breaker
Connect the pile breaker to the excavator's quick coupler. Attach the hydraulic hoses and check for leaks. Confirm pressure is set to 25–35 MPa.
03.

Position Over the Pile
Lower the pile breaker over the pile head. Align the jaws with the marked cut-off level. Keep the breaker centered for even force distribution.
04.

Activate Hydraulic Crushing
Engage the auxiliary hydraulic flow. Jaws close inward with 360° radial pressure. Concrete fractures in 10–60 seconds depending on pile size and strength.
05.

Remove Concrete & Cut Rebar
Release pressure and open the jaws. Use the excavator bucket to remove broken concrete. Cut the exposed rebar to design level — the rebar cage stays intact and undamaged.
06.

Move to the Next Pile
Reposition the breaker at the next pile. Full cycle takes 3–10 minutes per pile. One operator can process 50–100+ piles per day.

All You Need to Know About Hydraulic Pile Breaker
FES pile breakers cover pile diameters from 250mm to 2500mm. The FP315 handles 250–400mm round piles, the FP380 handles 300–500mm round piles, square pile breakers handle 300×300mm to 500×500mm, and the FP800W handles 600–2500mm walled and large round piles.
No, round and square pile breakers have different jaw geometries. However, within the same type (e.g., round), one machine can handle multiple diameters by swapping jaw inserts. Some customers purchase both a round and a square pile breaker to cover all pile types on their project.
Excavator size depends on the pile breaker model:
- FP315: 5–15 ton excavator
- FP380: 8–20 ton excavator
- FP400S/FP450S: 8–25 ton excavator
- FP500S: 20–30 ton excavator
- FP800W: 30–60 ton excavator
The excavator must be equipped with an auxiliary hydraulic circuit. If you are unsure whether your excavator is compatible, send us your excavator model and we will confirm.
Breaking time depends on pile diameter and concrete strength. Typically:
- Small piles (250–400mm): 3–5 minutes
- Medium piles (400–800mm): 5–8 minutes
- Large piles (800mm+): 8–15 minutes
This includes positioning, crushing, and debris removal. A single operator can typically process 50–100 piles per day.
No. The hydraulic pile breaker uses compression force that fractures the concrete cleanly without generating shock waves or vibrations that could damage the pile shaft below the cut line. The structural integrity of the remaining pile is fully preserved. This is a major advantage over impact methods.
Yes, FES pile breakers can be operated underwater for marine and offshore pile cutting. The hydraulic system is sealed and corrosion-resistant. However, we recommend using stainless steel components and special seals for extended underwater use. Contact us with your underwater project requirements.
